Beijing Forbidden City-Inner Court

The Inner Court is the back part of the Forbidden City. It centers Qianqing Gong (the Palace of Heavenly Purity), Jiaotai Dian (the Hall of Union), and Kunning Gong (the Palace of Earthly Tranquility).
On eastern and western sides are Yangxin Dian (the Hall of Mental Cultivation), the Six Eastern Palaces and the Six Western Palaces, Zhai Gong (the Hall for Abstinence), Yuqing Gong.
In the rear portion is the Imperial Garden. It is the residence place of the emperor and his queens and princesses. Ningshou Gong (the Palace of Peace and Longevity), in the eastern part of the Inner Court, was built for Emperor Qianlong’s retirement life.
Yangxin Dian (the Hall of Mental Cultivation) is in the western part of the Inner Court. Since the Emperor Yongzheng period, Yangxin Dian gradually became the place for the emperor to manage state affairs. Eventually it became the political center of Qing Dynasty. Emperor both worked and slept there. Yangxindian blends both Han and Manchu style in interior decoration, shining a profound Confucian cultural connotation.
