Zhenfei Well, Zhen Concubine’s Well珍妃井
Zhen Concubine was one of the beloved concubines of Emperor Guangxu. As she was always supporting whatever ideas that suggested by Emperor Guangxu, she obtained the full attention of Emperor Guangxu but at the same time was hated by Empress Dowager Cixi.
In year 1898, Empress Dowager Cixi once again obtained the political power from Emperor Guangxu. Since then, she arrested Zhen Concubine within a small courtyard at the southeastern corner of the palace in order to avoid her meet with Emperor Guangxu. She was left alone with no one to talk with as no one dares to do so. Sometime, Jin Concubine, a sister of Zhen Concubine would send some clothes and words secretly to this poor Zhen Concubine.
In year 1900, when the allied forces attacked Beijing, Empress Dowager Cixi had 
ordered Zhen Concubine to suicide before she left Forbidden City with Emperor Guangxu. Although Zhen Concubine refused to obey her instruction, she was pushed into the well and killed anyway. Even after her death, the corpse of Zhen Concubine was left in the well until the second year after the efforts of Jin Concubine seeking for help everywhere. Later, the well was named as Zhen Concubine’s Well in order to commemorate her.
