Renyin Incident which occurred within the reign of Emperor Jiajing of Ming Dynasty was an incident regarding a failure case of palace women to kill Emperor Jiajing. As the incident was taken place on Renyin year in the Chinese ancient calendar, therefore the incident was known as Renyin Incident.
During that time, Emperor Jiajing who was superstition had long seeking for the way for immortality. He believed that the medicine which was made by using the menstruation blood of young virgins could help him in reaching eternal life. For this reason, young virgins were selected from different
locations and sent into the palace. From year 1547 until 1564, over 1080 young ladies aged between 8 to 14 years old were chosen for this purpose. Moreover, in order to remain the cleanliness of the virgin, they were not allow taking meals but ate only mulberries and drank dew. In addition, more than 200 young ladies died under the serious punishment here.
Finally in year 1542, Yang Jinying, one of the palace woman and her gangs had decided to kill Emperor Jiajing. However, they failed to do so and all of them were put to death by the Empress.
